Oh, really? On that Amazon page, a reviewer said something about downloading a Realtek driver, though he was specifically talking about the ethernet port. I'd rather not have to spend money if I don't have to, but does seem like a good deal for all that it offers (it's only $25, and I payed $30 for the hub and $13 for the ethernet adapter that I have now).

If I can make sure to get the proper drivers for that, I think that it might be a better solution than trying to figure out the cable and/or driver issues with the devices that I have now. Do you think that you could help me out?įinally, another solution that I'm thinking about is just getting a USB hub that has an ethernet port included, like this one from AUKEY. Weirdly enough, it did show up as a USB 3.0 device - even though the USB hub shows up as a USB 2.0 device with that cord. The weird thing is that I just decided to try plugging in one of my external hard drives using the cord that came with the USB hub.

How can I do that? I've searched online for it, but I can't really find it.Īlso, as I noted in my update post, it seems like it might be the cord that causing issues.

Hi! Please first check my reply to your comment as well as the update comment that I posted as a reply to the original post of this thread.Īnyway, you mentioned updating the firmware for the VIA VL812 chipset. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? I've included screenshots to show what I'm talking about (for some reason, I couldn't insert more than two screenshots, so I haven't included screenshots for the external drive). I'm not sure why, but I think that both devices are actually being recognized by the computer as USB 2.0 devices, since the hub (listed as "USB2.0 Hub") and the adapter (listed as "AX88179") both have speeds of "Up to 480 Mb/sec." Since they're USB 3.0 devices, shouldn't the speed be 5Gb/sec (and shouldn't the hub be listed as "USB3.0 Hub")? For comparison, both of my Western Digital 1TB USB 3.0 external drives have speeds of "Up to 5Gb/sec" when connected directly to the computer (though, when connected via the hub, the speed drops down to "Up to 480Mb/sec").

I was just now re-installing the driver software for ethernet adapter, and I went to System Information to check if it installed correctly. A couple of months later, I also got a Ugreen USB 3.0-to-ethernet adapter ( this one). Note: This tool applies to Microsoft Windows PC's only.Around a year and a half ago, I got an Insignia USB 3.0 hub ( this one, I think). I always find better success using the last HDMI port of a TV when sending a 1080P signal to them. 'Active' is typically used for stronger and longer cable sends. The term 'Passive' means no Power connection is needed. Typical units might use a USB cable +5vdc or seperate Wall connected PS to the unit. The term 'ACTIVE' means it needs to be Power'd by something.
